Himalayan Peony (Paeonia emodi) is a perennial herb native to the western Himalayas, including parts of Kashmir, Mirpur,Pir panchal mountains. It is valued as an ornamental and medicinal plant, while its underground roots and rhizome-like structures have a history of traditional use.
Paeonia emodi can also be considered for medicinal-plant gardens, botanical collections and high-altitude ornamental landscapes. Well-drained soil, adequate winter dormancy and protection from prolonged waterlogging are important. Propagation may be undertaken through seeds or division of established plants, with patience required because seed-grown plants can take several years to reach flowering maturity.
