| Agriculture in Kashmir |
Agriculture is the foundation of food security, rural development, environmental conservation, and economic growth. Modern agriculture combines traditional farming knowledge with scientific research, sustainable cultivation practices, improved planting materials, and innovative agricultural technologies to increase productivity and support farmers.
At JKMPIC – Jammu and Kashmir Medicinal Plants Introduction Centre, our focus includes plant propagation, medicinal plant cultivation, fruit tree production, agroforestry, and the introduction of valuable plant species for cultivation in Kashmir. We promote the importance of quality seedlings, locally adapted planting materials, responsible land management, and long-term plantation development.
Farmers, orchardists, nurseries, agricultural entrepreneurs, and landowners can explore opportunities in apple cultivation, walnut and pecan plantations, medicinal herbs, aromatic plants, organic fertilizers, and other commercially valuable crops. Selecting suitable plant species according to local climate, soil conditions, water availability, and market demand can help establish productive and sustainable agricultural ventures.
Horticulture and agroforestry also offer opportunities to diversify farm income while supporting soil conservation, biodiversity, and the responsible use of agricultural land. Scientific plant propagation, seed collection, nursery management, and the preservation of useful plant varieties are important components of agricultural development.
Our goal is to encourage agricultural innovation, expand awareness of economically valuable plants, and support the wider cultivation of suitable fruit trees, medicinal herbs, and other useful species throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
Explore agricultural resources, plantation ideas, cultivation information, and planting material opportunities through JKMPIC. Whether you are planning a small garden, establishing a commercial orchard, or exploring medicinal plant farming, informed decisions and quality planting material are essential steps towards long-term agricultural success.
