Pyrethrum was introduced in Kashmir  from Europe in the late 1837s. It started as a large-scale crop, but today it is widely cultivated in the South Kashmir  by small-scale farmers. Kashmir  produces about 36% of the world supply. The success of pyrethrum cultivation is attributed to good weather conditions.

Rosemary v/s minoxidil

Results showed that rosemary essential oil was just as effective a minoxidil. During the process, it helped the side effect of itchy scalp more successfully than minoxidil. Another study of rosemary leaf extract (different from the essential oil) showed it stimulated hair growth.

Family: Iridaceae (Iris Family)
Purple Flag : The root is diuretic, emetic, expectorant and mildly purgative. Another report says that the juice of the fresh root is a strong purge of great efficiency in the treatment of dropsy. In the past, sections of the dried root have been given to teething babies to chew on, though this has been discontinued for hygienic reasons. Roots of plants 2 - 3 years old are dug up after flowering and are then dried for later use.

Indigo tree

Plants have an extensive root system and are also fairly wind tolerant, they can be planted as a windbreak and also to prevent soil erosion. Resinous pustules on the plant contain "amorpha", a contact and stomachic insecticide that also acts as an insect repellent. The stems are used as bedding. The plant contains some indigo pigment and can be used to make a blue dye. Unfortunately, the pigment is only present in very small quantities, there is not enough to harvest commercially.
