Ginkgo biloba tree seeds

Ginkgo seeds for sale

The Jammu and Kashmir Medicinal Plants Introduction Centrewas established under the  Fruit & Medicinal plants Development Project during the year 2020-2011.  The infrastructure, existing as on date, was created over a period of 5-10 years.

The Ginkgo plantation was started during the year 2001-2004.  The main thrust of the programme was to develop Ginkgo plantation of  improved cultivars.

Cultivars/Varieties
'Autumn Gold' (perhaps Autumn Gold™) - This male (non-fruiting) selection is common in the trade and notable for its symmetrical crown that is broad and rounded. The mature size is 50' tall with a 30' spread and fall color is an excellent deep yellow.

'Jade Butterfly' - An unusual dwarf, slow-growing form, this plant has bright green leaves and a mature height that is less than half that of standard forms. It's an introduction out of New Zealand that is gaining popularity.

'Magyar' - An introduction that is gaining momentum in the trade, this plant is a non-fruiting male with upright, ascending branching to 60' tall and half as wide. It is well-suited to urban planting as a street tree.

'Pendula' (also listed as f. pendula) - Plants listed under this name are quite variable, with few expressing a strong weeping habit. Most bear branches that are horizontal or droop slightly

'PNI 2720' (Princeton Sentry®) - A very popular non-fruiting male form, this form assumes an upright habit that tapers to the point. It reaches 60' tall, but only 25' wide.

'Saratoga' - Commonly offered, this plant has a strong central leader and an upright, narrow habit (40' tall and 30' tall).

'Variegata' - Many different clones are offered under this name, but most feature leaves that are irregularly streaked with yellow.

Hazelnut tree in india

Hazelnut trees in Kashmir
The chilling requirement of  hazelnut is about the same as that of most commercial cultivars of apple, kiwi and walnut  and thus it can be grown successfully in the apple growing regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand and North-Eastern Himalayan regions of India.

It is the second most expensive nut and needs cold and hilly terrain with a few days of sub-zero temperature. Therefore, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir make the best choice in India. It takes three to five years for hazelnut plants to grow and yield fruit.

As there is plenty of illnesses, there is also plenty of herbs, given to the mankind as a help in their lives. To use medicinal herbs is more natural way to heal your body and mind, than eating pills... And how the medicinal herbs works, when you use them for healing? Let me say it briefly. The medicinal herbs itself do not heal, bur makes bridge to the light vibrations, which heals.

The  Jammu and Kashmir Medicinal Plants Introduction Centre-JKMPIC, is a pioneer institution to start cultivation of important indigenous medicinal plants and introduce many from other parts of the world. A preliminary study on cultivation of medicinal plants in Jammu and Kashmir was from this institution. The medicinal plant garden created, grown and nurtured by JKMPIC around its unit complex contains Kashmir’s largest privately owned collection of medicinal plants, spanning over 200 varieties, including rare and endemic medicinal plants.

The garden is a treasure of herbal remedies that have been used for thousands of years by our ancestors for healing, health and beauty. All plants in the garden are carefully conserved for future generations further, a tissue culture lab. Established within the medicinal plant garden propagates and distributes rare medicinal plants as a further conservation effort. The plant introduction centre also nestled within the garden carries out advanced plant study  into the medicinal plants in the garden, researching and validating their traditional uses.

The root is antiasthmatic, antibacterial, antidote, antifungal, antitussive, diuretic, expectorant, laxative and vermifuge. The plant has an interesting chemistry and it is currently (1995) being investigated as a potential anti-AIDS drug

Ulmus wallichiana tree cultivation in kashmir

Ulmus wallichiana tree cultivation

Cashmerian Elem-Ulmus wallichiana
Family : Ulmaceae (Elm Family)
Ulmus wallichiana Planch., the Himalayan elm, also known as the Kashmir elm Ulmus wallichiana and Bhutan elm, is a mountain tree ranging from central Nuristan in Afghanistan, through northern Pakistan and northern India to western Nepal at elevations of 800–3000 m.

Although dissimilar in appearance, its common name is occasionally used in error for the cherry bark elm Ulmus villosa, which is also endemic to the Kashmir, but inhabits the valleys, not the mountain slopes. The species is closely related to the wych elm U. glabra.

A strong fibre is obtained from the inner bark. It is used for cordage, slow matches and sandals. The young shoots are used to make strong ropes. A dye is obtained from the ashes of the burnt twigs.

The colour is not given. Wood - fairly hard, somewhat scented, fine grained, takes a good polish. Used for furniture. Bark of U. wallichiana is commonly used for treatment of fractured bones in animals as well asin human beings in folk tradition of Himalaya.

Local people collect U. wallichiana fresh bark, crushed minutely and boiled in water for 1/2h to make fine semi-solid substrate. As bark contains strong fibers and high percentage of mucilage, substrate became laxative and sticky.

Fractured part of body is washed and properly set by experienced bone setter. Cooled semisolid laxative substrate is thoroughly poured and lapped around fractured part and tightened with a clean cloth followed by giving proper support to fractured part with thick card board. Patient is then allowed for minimum 30 days rest.

Angelica archangelica plants in india

Angelica archangelica plants in india

Angelica has a long folk-history of use as a medicinal herb, in particular for the treatment of digestive disorders and problems with blood circulation. The root is the most active medicinally, it should be harvested in the autumn of its first year of growth, sliced longitudinally if necessary and dried quickly. If well stored, the root retains its medicinal virtues for many years.

The leaves and seeds can also be used. The leaves are harvested and dried in late spring before the plant comes into flower. The plant is antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic, diuretic, expectorant, stimulant, stomachic, tonic. An infusion is used to ease flatulence, indigestion, chronic bronchitis and typhus. It stimulates blood flow to the peripheral parts of the body and so is of value in treating poor circulation - it is considered a specific treatment for Buerger's disease, a condition that narrows the arteries of the hands and feet.

Angelica is contra-indicated for people with a tendency towards diabetes since its use can increase sugar levels in the urine. This plant should not be prescribed for pregnant women, nor should the juice be allowed to come into contact with the eyes. An essential oil from the seeds is sometimes used as a rub to relieve rheumatic conditions.

Kiwi trees in India

Kiwi trees in Kashmir

Kiwi is mostly grown in the mid hills of  Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, J & K, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh,Karnataka,Uttarakhand  and Kerala.  Having been very newly introduced in the country estimates of area and production have not yet become available.

Probably because they aren't mostly grown locally in India. They have to be imported. Import means taxes, more transportation charge, and higher risk of damage. All this leads to higher prices.

Kiwi fruit plant varieties cultivated in India are AbbottAllisonBrunoHaywardMonty and Tomuri.

Kiwi vine starts bearing at the age of 4-5 years while the commercial production starts at the age of 7-8 years. The fruits mature earlier at lower altitude and later at high altitudes because of variation in temperature. Large sized berries are harvested first while smaller ones are allowed to increase in size. After harvesting, the fruits are rubbed with a coarse cloth to remove stiff hairs found on their surface. Hard fruits are transported to the market. Subsequently, they lose their firmness in two weeks and become edible. Kiwi plant

Since kiwi is a dioecious plant, it bears pistillate and staminate flowers separately. Commercially grown important pistillate and staminate cultivars are:

Abbott : This is an early flowering and early maturing cultivar. The oblong, medium sized, fruits are covered with dense hairs. They are very sweet in taste with lower ascorbic acid content and medium titratable acidity.

Allison : Fruits resemble those of Abbott, except that these are slightly broader in proportion to its length. The petals of its flowers are overlapping and crimped along with margins. It is an early ripening, heavy bearer and sweet in taste. Ascorbic acid and titratable acidity are on the lower side. This variety is most suited for Himachal Pradesh.

Bruno : This cultivar requires comparatively less chilling period. The fruits are tapering in shape towards the stem end. They are longest among all the cultivars. The fruits is dark brown having very dense, short and bristly hair, highest in ascorbic acid and titratable acidity. The bearing is very heavy.

Hayward : Most popular cultivar or the world, Hayward is comparatively shy bearer with a tendency of biennial bearing. The fruit is broad and flat, being much wider in relation to length. It is superior in flavour with high sugar and ascorbic acid content. It requires comparatively more chilling hours.

Monty : It is a late flowering cultivar but fruit maturity is not late. The fruits are oblong, resembling those of Abbot and Allison. Being a highly prolific bearer cultivar, sometimes it needs hand thinning for obtaining good sized fruits. The fruit is somewhat wider towards blossom end with higher acidity and medium sugar content.

Tomuri : It is a good pollenizer for Hayward and Monty, the late flowering kiwis. Flowers appear usually in groups of 5. Allison : It is also used for pollenizing different cultivars.
